Today I spent all morning decorating for the holidays with my daughter. We aren’t religious, so we don’t abide by Christmas the same way as my husband’s parents or my parents do, but we still celebrate the season of joy, happiness, and family. And yes, we still say Merry Christmas as it is Christmas after all! We love to spread the cheer starting with some holiday music and decorations … and my freshly made brownies!
First, we start with our tree. Normally we use a fake tree because we have three teens and we are always on the go, so a real tree would not get watered enough and from experience, we know how that ends up. Since my kids are older teens, we already have the gifts under the tree.
And yes, that’s Star Wars wrapping paper and my Star Wars framed photo behind the tree. I am a HUGE Star Wars fan, so it’s expected, but I don’t decorate the tree in Star Wars as the tree has a different theme each year and it’s totally up to the kids!
After the tree, Mr. and Mrs. Claus are always the next to go up.
These were handmade by my mother in law 24 years ago when my husband and I first got married. These were the last big holiday pieces she ever made as her hands began to bother her more. She still does smaller pieces like towels and cloths, but she has never made anything like this since then. I cherish it, as its just another reminder of how long my husband and I have been married.
Then my daughter started setting everything else up, as she loves my village pieces.
I even made a Snow Globe out of my cake dish!
And Father Winter helped us along this morning by giving us a dusting of snow, but not too much.
After all that, we put the fireplace *cough* on my curved tv to add even more of a roomy glow.
It’s beginning to get very cheery and festive around here and we’re loving it! Happiness is spending time together, cherishing everything you already have in your life, and embracing the mystical moments of the holiday. I am very happy! Are you?
